Redon - IMO 9030498 (now Victress)

REDON was the short-lived name carried in 2017–2018 by the small general cargo vessel now sailing again as VICTRESS. Built in Germany in 1992, the ship began her career as LASS URANUS, later became VICTRESS in 2008, was renamed REDON in August 2017 and then reverted to VICTRESS in June 2018. The PiraeuShips recording therefore preserves a relatively brief phase in the vessel’s career under the REDON identity.

The vessel was built by Roßlauer Schiffswerft at Rosslau, Germany, as yard number 234. She measures 74.9 metres in length and 11.4 metres in beam, with a gross tonnage of 1,512 GT and deadweight of 2,386 tonnes. Current records continue to identify her under the Panama flag with MMSI 357544000 and call sign HO6974.

History

The ship was launched in March 1992 and entered service later that year as LASS URANUS. In 2008 she was sold and renamed VICTRESS, sailing under the Barbados flag. In August 2017 she transferred to the Panama register and became REDON, but this name lasted less than a year. In June 2018 she again became VICTRESS, the name she continues to carry today.

The vessel has also had several noteworthy incidents during her long career. She was involved in a collision on the River Elbe in 2006, suffered a technical failure near the Dardanelles in 2022, and was detained at Cagliari in June 2022 after a Paris MoU inspection recorded 26 deficiencies.

June 2026 Black Sea Attack

The most serious event in the vessel’s recent history occurred on 22 June 2026. While sailing in the Black Sea toward the Ukrainian maritime corridor, VICTRESS was struck by a Russian drone, causing a major fire. One crew member, a 58-year-old Egyptian national, was killed and the remaining eight crew members were evacuated. Ukrainian authorities reported that the vessel suffered major damage and lost seaworthiness.

Since the attack, public AIS services have not shown a normal resumed trading pattern, and several databases now classify the vessel as being in casualty or repair status. I would therefore not describe her simply as “Active” in the updated PiraeuShips page.

Piraeus Connection

REDON/VICTRESS has been documented several times in the Piraeus area. The original PiraeuShips page records her under the REDON name in April 2018, while independent photographs show VICTRESS at the Piraeus anchorage in October 2020.

REDON was recorded at Piraeus by PiraeuShips during the vessel’s brief 2017–2018 period under that name. The recording is now particularly valuable because IMO 9030498 reverted to VICTRESS only months later and has since experienced a dramatic continuation of her career, culminating in the serious Black Sea drone attack of June 2026.
