IONIA is a Cypriot-flagged feeder containership operated by Salamis Lines on the company’s regular services linking Greece, Cyprus and Israel. The vessel is a familiar caller at Piraeus and forms part of the commercial traffic connecting the port with Limassol and Israeli ports. Salamis acquired the ship as part of an expansion of its sea-transport activities and introduced her into its network under the name IONIA.
Built in Poland in 2000, IONIA measures 133.34 metres in length and 22.90 metres in beam, with a maximum draught of 7.70 metres. She has a gross tonnage of 8,737 GT and a deadweight of 9,113 tonnes. Salamis lists her with a container capacity of approximately 889 TEU, suitable for 20-, 40- and 45-foot containers, while the vessel is classed by DNV.
The ship has had a varied career under several names. She was originally associated with the name HOLANDIA and later traded as CALA PONENTE, CALA PHOENICIA and VENTO DI GRECALE, before reverting again to HOLANDIA and finally becoming IONIA in 2023. Her earlier career was spent in European feeder-container services before joining Salamis Lines.

History
During her career, the vessel changed identity several times according to different chartering and operational arrangements. She traded as CALA PONENTE and CALA PHOENICIA during the first decade of her career and later as VENTO DI GRECALE before returning to the HOLANDIA name. After acquisition by Salamis Lines, she was renamed IONIA and registered under the Cyprus flag. Salamis announced that the vessel would provide weekly container services between Greece, Cyprus and Israel.
Her connection with Piraeus is particularly strong. Recent AIS history shows repeated calls between Piraeus and Limassol, together with calls at Ashdod, Haifa and Thessaloniki. During the last year, Piraeus has been one of her most frequently visited ports, making IONIA a regular part of the commercial shipping scene of the port.
PiraeuShips Record
IONIA was recorded at Piraeus by PiraeuShips while operating within the Salamis Lines network. As a regular feeder containership linking Greece with Cyprus and Israel, she represents the type of regional commercial traffic that forms an important part of the everyday activity of the Port of Piraeus.
Former UASC A15-Class Containership – Now Hapag-Lloyd Owned
AL JASRAH is a 14,993-TEU ultra-large containership built by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries in South Korea in 2016 for the former United Arab Shipping Company – UASC.
At approximately 368 metres in length, 153,148 GT and more than 157,000 tonnes deadweight in Hapag-Lloyd's current fleet data, the vessel belongs to UASC's highly efficient A15 class, developed as part of the Gulf carrier's major fleet-modernisation programme during the mid-2010s.
AL JASRAH was originally delivered into the UASC network but became part of Hapag-Lloyd following the historic merger of the two liner companies in 2017.
Unlike several former UASC vessels that later adopted “Express” names, AL JASRAH has retained her original identity.
Since the original PiraeuShips entry, an important registry change has also occurred:
Marshall Islands → Liberia.
The vessel remains fully active with Hapag-Lloyd in 2026.

Built for UASC
AL JASRAH was created during an extraordinary period of fleet expansion at:
United Arab Shipping Company.
UASC ordered a new generation of large and highly efficient vessels consisting principally of:
18,800-TEU A18 ships
and:
15,000-TEU A15 ships.
AL JASRAH belonged to the latter group.
Contemporary industry reporting identified her nominal capacity as:
14,993 TEU.
UASC A15 Design
The A15 series was designed around:
lower fuel consumption,
electronic main-engine control,
improved hydrodynamics,
and significantly greater cargo capacity than UASC's previous ships.
The design represented one of the final major technical investments made by UASC before the company merged with Hapag-Lloyd.
Delivered in May 2016
The vessel was completed by:
Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries
as hull:
S741.
The keel was laid in November 2015, launching followed in January 2016 and delivery took place on:
2 May 2016.
AL JASRAH therefore joined UASC's fleet during the final year before the merger process fundamentally changed the company's future.
14,993 TEU
Hapag-Lloyd's current official fleet database gives nominal capacity of:
14,993 TEU.
This places AL JASRAH just below the symbolic:
15,000-TEU
threshold.
At delivery she was among the larger containerships in regular global liner service.
153,148 GT
Current Hapag-Lloyd particulars give:
153,148 GT
and:
157,375 tonnes deadweight.
The original PiraeuShips database carried:
149,360 DWT,
which reflects earlier technical-register information for the vessel.
For the updated article, Hapag-Lloyd's present official figure of:
157,375 t
is the preferable current reference.
UASC → Hapag-Lloyd
The defining corporate event in AL JASRAH's career came in:
2017,
when United Arab Shipping Company was integrated into:
Hapag-Lloyd.
AL JASRAH consequently became part of one of the world's largest container-shipping fleets.
Hapag-Lloyd's own financial documentation subsequently listed AL JASRAH among the company's owned vessels.
Hapag-Lloyd Ownership
The current ownership position is now particularly clear.
Hapag-Lloyd's official fleet page lists AL JASRAH directly in its fleet, while U.S. Coast Guard financial-responsibility records dated 2026 identify:
HAPAG-LLOYD AG
as owner of IMO 9732321.
The old PiraeuShips ownership information should therefore no longer show UASC as the present owner.
Marshall Islands → Liberia
When PiraeuShips published AL JASRAH in:
August 2022,
the vessel was shown under the:
Marshall Islands flag
with:
MMSI 538005845.
That has changed.
The vessel now sails under:
Liberia
with:
MMSI 636093137
and:
Call Sign 5LIJ8.
This is one of the most important updates required in the original article.
Current ISM Company
Current statutory certification issued under the Liberian flag identifies:
RHL Reederei Hamburger Lloyd GmbH & Co. KG
as the ISM company responsible for the vessel.
The Safety Management Certificate is currently valid through:
20 April 2028,
subject to the normal periodic verification requirements.
Still Active in 2026
AL JASRAH remains firmly in active liner employment.
Current schedules in 2026 continue to show the vessel within:
Hapag-Lloyd
and partner:
Maersk
service networks, with further sailings already scheduled into late October.
A January 2026 photograph at:
Rijeka
also confirms her continuing active service under the current Liberia / Hapag-Lloyd configuration.
PiraeuShips Record
PiraeuShips published:
AL JASRAH – IMO 9732321
in:
August 2022.
At that point the page recorded:
Marshall Islands flag
153,148 GT
149,360 DWT
368 m length
and construction by:
Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries.
The ship was already commercially associated with Hapag-Lloyd, but much of the vessel database still reflected her earlier UASC corporate history.
PiraeuShips Record
AL JASRAH was recorded by PiraeuShips during the post-UASC chapter of one of the Gulf carrier's final major newbuilding programmes. Delivered by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries in May 2016, the 368-metre vessel belongs to the UASC A15 design and has a nominal capacity of 14,993 TEU. Only a year after delivery, UASC merged with Hapag-Lloyd and AL JASRAH became part of the German carrier's global liner fleet while retaining her original name. Since the 2022 PiraeuShips entry, the vessel has transferred from the Marshall Islands to the Liberian flag and today sails with MMSI 636093137 and call sign 5LIJ8. Hapag-Lloyd's current fleet data gives 153,148 GT and 157,375 tonnes deadweight, while 2026 schedules confirm that AL JASRAH remains fully active on major international services. The PiraeuShips footage therefore preserves the vessel during an important transitional period between her UASC origins and her present Hapag-Lloyd identity.

1,732 TEU.
At approximately 177 metres long, JONATHAN P remains far smaller than modern mainline containerships but is correspondingly more flexible in feeder and regional services.
Earlier Identities
The ship's documented previous names include:
MARUBA ZONDA
FRITZ REUTER
and:
PIRAEUS TRADER.
MARUBA ZONDA was an early charter identity.
The ship later traded for many years as FRITZ REUTER before becoming PIRAEUS TRADER in 2020.
JONATHAN P
In:
October 2021
the vessel became:
JONATHAN P.
She subsequently entered her present Greek-controlled ownership and management structure.
Greek Ownership and Management
Current records identify:
Jonathan Shipowners Ltd.
as registered owner.
The vessel is managed by:
Eurobulk Ltd.
in Greece.
This makes JONATHAN P another example of a foreign-flagged but Greek-controlled feeder vessel operating in the international liner market.
DNV Class
Current classification is:
DNV.
Eurobulk publishes the class notation for the vessel as a cellular containership with automated machinery and container-related notation.
The old PiraeuShips page listed:

Wenchong Shipyard.
Current Eurobulk documentation refines the figures to:
23,732 DWT
and:
176.91 m LOA.
Still Active in 2026
JONATHAN P remains fully active in:
2026.
September AIS data showed the vessel trading in:
West Africa,
including:
Dakar.
Current CMA CGM schedule data continues to list JONATHAN P on liner sailings into:
November 2026.
By mid-October she was operating on CMA CGM's:
BIJAGOS
service, with upcoming calls including:
Tanger Med.
PiraeuShips Record
JONATHAN P was recorded by PiraeuShips shortly after the vessel adopted her current Greek-controlled identity. Built at Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard in 2006, the 1,732-TEU feeder previously traded under the MARUBA ZONDA, FRITZ REUTER and PIRAEUS TRADER names before becoming JONATHAN P in October 2021. Current ownership is held by Jonathan Shipowners Ltd., with management by Greek company Eurobulk Ltd., while the vessel remains under the Liberian flag and DNV class. At 20 years of age in 2026, JONATHAN P remains fully operational in CMA CGM's international network, including West African feeder services. The PiraeuShips footage therefore captures the beginning of a name and ownership chapter that continues actively today.

MED DENIZLI is a veteran Turkish-flagged geared containership built in Poland in 1996, which remains in active Mediterranean service three decades after construction.
Built at Stocznia Szczecińska in Szczecin, the vessel has accumulated an unusually extensive collection of charter names during her career, including CAPE SPENCER, TS HONGKONG, EMIRATES KARAN, SOUNION and MSC CLEMENTINA.
She became MED DENIZLI in February 2016 and is today owned by Med Denizli Denizcilik A.Ş. and managed by Medlog Shipping & Trade.
The vessel remains fully operational in 2026, regularly trading between Piraeus, Turkey and Eastern Mediterranean ports.
at the famous Szczecin shipbuilding complex in Poland.
The vessel belongs to the:
B-190 design,
a geared regional containership type intended for flexible liner employment.
At just over 151 metres long, she can serve ports that are impractical for much larger modern containerships.
An Exceptional Number of Names
IMO 9106493 has operated under numerous identities.
Among the best documented are:
GRAFTON
FANAL / FANAL MERCHANT
CAPE SPENCER
TS HONGKONG
TS KAOHSIUNG
EMIRATES KARAN
CAPE SOUNION
SOUNION
and:
MSC CLEMENTINA.
Becoming MED DENIZLI
In:
February 2016
the vessel adopted her current name:
MED DENIZLI.
Unlike many of her short-lived charter identities, the MED DENIZLI name has now lasted for more than a decade.
Current Turkish Ownership
An important update from the original PiraeuShips article concerns ownership and management.
Current Turkish maritime records identify:
Med Denizli Denizcilik A.Ş.
as owner,
while:
Medlog Shipping & Trade
manages the vessel.
This replaces the older Omega Shipping / Mediterranean Container Chartering information carried in the 2021 PiraeuShips database.
1,055 TEU
Medlog's official vessel specification gives:
1,055 TEU.
Of these, approximately:
715 TEU
can be carried when loaded at 14 tonnes homogeneous weight.
The vessel also has:
120 reefer plugs
and:
two cargo cranes.
Piraeus Connection
MED DENIZLI has a very strong and continuing Piraeus connection.
PiraeuShips published its dedicated:
MED DENIZLI – IMO 9106493
entry in:
March 2021.
The vessel has continued to call at Piraeus repeatedly during subsequent years.
Still Calling at Piraeus in 2026
The connection remains current.
AIS records show MED DENIZLI operating between:
Piraeus
Latakia
Tartus
and other Eastern Mediterranean ports during 2026.
On 2 October 2026, the ship was again scheduled to arrive at Piraeus.
PiraeuShips Record
MED DENIZLI was recorded by PiraeuShips during what has become the longest recent identity in the career of a veteran Polish-built feeder containership. Completed at Szczecin in 1996, IMO 9106493 previously traded under numerous names including CAPE SPENCER, TS HONGKONG, EMIRATES KARAN, SOUNION and MSC CLEMENTINA before becoming MED DENIZLI in February 2016. Today the 1,055-TEU vessel is Turkish flagged, owned by Med Denizli Denizcilik and managed by Medlog Shipping & Trade. Remarkably, she remains fully active at 30 years of age and continues regular Eastern Mediterranean operations involving Piraeus, giving the original PiraeuShips footage continuing relevance rather than purely historical interest.
