Celebrity Beyond - IMO 9838395

CELEBRITY BEYOND is a Maltese-flagged luxury cruise ship operated by Celebrity Cruises and the third vessel of the company’s Edge Series. Delivered in April 2022 by Chantiers de l’Atlantique at Saint-Nazaire, France, she was developed as a larger evolution of Celebrity Edge and Celebrity Apex, with expanded outdoor areas and greater passenger capacity. The ship accommodates 3,260 guests at double occupancy and up to 3,937 passengers at maximum capacity.

The vessel measures 326.5 metres in length and approximately 39.5 metres in beam, with a gross tonnage of 141,420 GT. Propulsion is diesel-electric, using two ABB Azipod units with a combined propulsion output of about 32 MW, while maximum speed is approximately 22.6 knots.

One of CELEBRITY BEYOND’s distinguishing characteristics is the Edge-class “outward-facing” design, intended to connect public spaces more directly with the sea. Features include the cantilevered Magic Carpet, extensive open-air areas and the Rooftop Garden. Celebrity Cruises also lists the ship with 1,635 passenger cabins and around 1,416 crew members.

Construction and History

Celebrity Cruises took delivery of CELEBRITY BEYOND on 6 April 2022 at Saint-Nazaire. The vessel became the third Edge-series ship and entered commercial service later that month, with her maiden voyage departing Southampton on 27 April 2022.

She was designed as a somewhat larger development of the first two Edge-class vessels. Chantiers de l’Atlantique lists a maximum passenger capacity of 3,937, 1,416 crew and a 32 MW propulsion system. The ship’s godmother is Olympic gymnast Simone Biles.

CELEBRITY BEYOND and Piraeus

The vessel’s connection with Piraeus began almost immediately after delivery. Her maiden call at the Port of Piraeus took place during her first Mediterranean season in May 2022. The Piraeus Port Authority had already highlighted CELEBRITY BEYOND by the end of that month as one of the major new cruise ships making its first appearance at the port.

Published itineraries show CELEBRITY BEYOND calling at Piraeus on 21 May 2022, during one of her first Greek-island cruises, and returning repeatedly later that summer.

The ship returned again in subsequent seasons. A documented call on 13 June 2023 formed part of Celebrity Cruises’ continued Eastern Mediterranean presence, while company representatives used the visit to discuss the cruise line’s broader investment in Greece and Piraeus.

PiraeuShips Record

CELEBRITY BEYOND was recorded at Piraeus by PiraeuShips during the vessel’s first year in service. The recording is especially valuable because the ship had been delivered only weeks earlier and was making her first Mediterranean and Piraeus appearances. As the third vessel of Celebrity Cruises’ Edge Series, CELEBRITY BEYOND represents one of the most significant new-generation cruise ships documented in the PiraeuShips visual archive.
