Georgios Alexios - IMO 9229116 (now Aristo)

GEORGIOS ALEXIOS was the name carried between late 2019 and May 2023 by a Dutch-built general cargo vessel originally completed as VOSSBORG in 2000.

The ship belongs to the successful Volharding 8700 general-cargo design and spent much of her early career within northern European short-sea trades.

After periods as VOSSBORG and MORPETH, she became GEORGIOS ALEXIOS under the Panama flag and Greek management before changing identity once again in 2023.

Today she is:

ARISTO

sailing under the flag of Antigua and Barbuda and remaining active in international cargo trades in 2026.

Built as VOSSBORG

The vessel was completed at Foxhol in the Netherlands in December 2000 as:

VOSSBORG

and initially operated within the Wagenborg-related north European cargo fleet.

The Volharding 8700 design was developed as a versatile general cargo ship suitable for:

bulk commodities,

steel products,

forest products,

project cargo

and other dry cargoes.

Its relatively narrow beam and approximately 10,000-tonne deadweight made the type well suited to European regional trading.

MORPETH

In 2004, VOSSBORG entered another operating chapter and was renamed:

MORPETH.

She became associated with Stephenson Clarke Shipping, a historic British dry-cargo operator.

The MORPETH identity lasted until early 2007.

Back to VOSSBORG

In February 2007, the vessel reverted to her original name:

VOSSBORG.

She continued trading under this identity for another twelve years.

In 2014, the vessel was sold to interests connected with Turkish shipping company Ali Riza Aksoy Denizcilik, with Albatros Shipping & Trading involved in management.

Becoming GEORGIOS ALEXIOS

A further major change came in December 2019, when the vessel was renamed:

GEORGIOS ALEXIOS.

During this stage she sailed under the:

Panama flag

and became associated with Greek ship-management interests.

PiraeuShips' 2022 record identified the ship with a deadweight of 9,996 tonnes, 6,298 GT and Wärtsilä machinery rated at approximately 3,960 kW.

The principal name sequence became:

VOSSBORG → MORPETH → VOSSBORG → GEORGIOS ALEXIOS

Greek-Managed Period

As GEORGIOS ALEXIOS, the vessel was associated with Nearchos Shipmanagement in Greece.

She continued to trade internationally rather than operating solely in Greek waters.

Documented voyages included cargo movements between:

Black Sea

North European

British

and Mediterranean ports.

In October 2022, for example, GEORGIOS ALEXIOS was recorded at Ipswich after arriving with fertiliser from Poti, Georgia.

Renamed ARISTO

In May 2023, the GEORGIOS ALEXIOS chapter ended.

The ship was renamed:

ARISTO

and transferred to the flag of:

Antigua and Barbuda.

The identity history therefore now reads:

VOSSBORG → MORPETH → VOSSBORG → GEORGIOS ALEXIOS → ARISTO.

Still Active in 2026

ARISTO remains active in 2026, more than 25 years after construction.

Recent AIS information shows the vessel continuing conventional European and Atlantic general-cargo trading.

During September 2026 she was recorded sailing from northern Europe toward Jorf Lasfar, Morocco.

Recent vessel databases identify Audemars Shipping Co Ltd. as the owner, while management records have changed during the post-GEORGIOS ALEXIOS period.

Piraeus Connection

GEORGIOS ALEXIOS has a clear documented connection with Piraeus.

The vessel was photographed in Drapetsona Bay on 10 April 2022, while still carrying the Panama flag and the GEORGIOS ALEXIOS name.

PiraeuShips published the dedicated GEORGIOS ALEXIOS – IMO 9229116 entry in June 2022.

This proved to be a particularly useful historical record because the ship retained the name for less than another year before becoming ARISTO.

PiraeuShips Record

GEORGIOS ALEXIOS was recorded at Piraeus by PiraeuShips in 2022 during a relatively short Greek-managed chapter of a long European general-cargo career. Built in the Netherlands in 2000 as VOSSBORG, the vessel temporarily traded as MORPETH between 2004 and 2007 before reverting to VOSSBORG. She became GEORGIOS ALEXIOS in December 2019 and sailed under this identity until May 2023, when she was renamed ARISTO and transferred to the Antigua and Barbuda flag. Still active in 2026, the vessel continues international dry-cargo trading more than a quarter of a century after construction. The PiraeuShips footage therefore preserves an identity that existed for only around three and a half years.
