Ellada Z - IMO 9333888 (now Ellada)

ELLADA Z is a powerful Greek rotor tug built in Singapore in 2006, originally delivered under the name RT ZOE.

The vessel was designed around the highly manoeuvrable Rotor Tug concept, using three independent propulsion units rather than the conventional twin-propeller arrangement found on many harbour tugs.

After a long career abroad as RT ZOE, the tug transferred to Greek interests in 2022 and became:

ELLADA Z.

At the time of the original PiraeuShips entry she was associated with Zouros Tugs.

The most important modern update is that the vessel is now operated within the NEMECA towage fleet, whose current official specification gives a bollard pull of:

71 tonnes

and total installed power of:

5,349 bhp.

Built as RT ZOE

The tug was completed in:

2006

by:

ASL Marine in Singapore.

Her original name was:

RT ZOE.

The “RT” designation reflected her specialised:

Rotor Tug

configuration.

The Rotor Tug Concept

Unlike conventional harbour tugs using one or two main propulsion units, RT ZOE was equipped with:

three independently controlled azimuthing propulsion units.

This arrangement provides exceptional:

manoeuvrability,

sideways thrust,

braking capability,

and escort performance.

The tug can generate substantial thrust in almost any direction without first needing to turn the hull.

Three Wärtsilä Main Engines

Current NEMECA specifications identify:

3 × Wärtsilä 8L20 main engines.

Each develops approximately:

1,310 kW

or:

1,783 bhp.

Combined output is:

5,349 bhp.

71-Tonne Bollard Pull

The original PiraeuShips specification gave:

70 tonnes forward

and:

68 tonnes astern.

NEMECA's present official fleet specification publishes:

71 tonnes bollard pull.

The updated profile should therefore use:

71 t

as the current operator's figure while preserving the older 70/68-tonne values as historical technical data.

RT ZOE → ELLADA Z

The vessel retained the:

RT ZOE

identity until:

March 2022.

After transferring to Greek interests, she became:

ELLADA Z.

The tug transferred to the:

Greek flag

and:

Piraeus registry.

Zouros Tugs Period

When PiraeuShips documented the vessel in late 2022, she was associated with:

Zouros Tugs.

The original page was therefore labelled accordingly and recorded the tug's:

three main engines,

70-tonne bollard pull,

28.3-metre historical length,

and 12-knot speed.

Transfer to NEMECA

The major subsequent change is the vessel's current association with:

NEMECA.

NEMECA's own fleet page now markets IMO 9333888 simply as:

ELLADA,

although several maritime databases continue to use the registered / familiar name:

ELLADA Z.

For archive purposes, retaining ELLADA Z in the PiraeuShips title makes sense because it matches the vessel's identity at the time of filming, while the opening paragraph should state that NEMECA currently presents her as ELLADA.

Greek Towage Career

The tug has operated around several Greek ports rather than remaining exclusively at Piraeus.

Current records show activity in:

Piraeus

and later around:

Corfu / Kerkyra.

In 2026 she remained active in the Ionian Sea under the Greek flag.

Firefighting Capability

The NEMECA specification also identifies significant firefighting equipment.

This includes:

two high-capacity fire pumps

and:

two fire monitors.

The vessel's RINA notation includes firefighting capability, giving the tug an important emergency-response role in addition to ship-assistance and towing duties.

Still Active in 2026

ELLADA Z remains fully operational in:

2026.

Recent AIS records placed the tug at:

Kerkyra / Corfu

and in the:

Ionian Sea.

Current vessel databases identify Greek ownership and Piraeus registry, confirming the continuing Greek chapter that began in 2022.

Piraeus Connection

The vessel has a clear Piraeus connection.

Following her acquisition by Greek interests she was:

Greek flagged

and:

registered at Piraeus.

PiraeuShips published the dedicated:

ELLADA Z – IMO 9333888

entry in:

November 2022,

shortly after the former RT ZOE entered her new Greek career.

PiraeuShips Record

ELLADA Z was recorded by PiraeuShips shortly after the former RT ZOE entered Greek service in 2022. Built by ASL Marine in Singapore in 2006, the vessel is a specialised Rotor Tug powered by three Wärtsilä 8L20 main engines driving independently controlled azimuthing propulsion units. The original PiraeuShips profile recorded 70 tonnes bollard pull forward and 68 tonnes astern, while current operator NEMECA publishes an updated bollard-pull figure of 71 tonnes and total installed power of 5,349 bhp. Initially associated with Zouros Tugs during her early Greek period, IMO 9333888 is now part of the NEMECA fleet and remains active in Greek waters in 2026. The PiraeuShips footage therefore preserves the beginning of her Greek career before an important change in operator and fleet identity.
