SILVER NOVA is an ultra-luxury cruise ship operated by Silversea Cruises and the first vessel of the company’s new Nova Class. Delivered in July 2023 by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, she introduced a radically different design to the Silversea fleet, with an asymmetrical superstructure and a horizontal layout intended to give passengers wider and less obstructed views of the sea. The ship accommodates 728 guests in 364 suites, with all-suite accommodation and a high crew-to-passenger ratio typical of Silversea’s luxury product.
The vessel is also notable for her environmental technology. SILVER NOVA uses LNG as its principal fuel and incorporates batteries, shore-power capability and a 4 MW fuel-cell system designed to support the ship’s hotel load. Meyer Werft states that the combination of these systems, together with improvements to the hull and energy management, significantly reduces emissions compared with the previous generation of Silversea vessels.
The 2026 season marked SILVER NOVA’s first regular presence at Piraeus. Beginning with her arrival on 12 July, the ship used Piraeus repeatedly as a turnaround port for Eastern Mediterranean cruises, with calls throughout July and August and further departures scheduled for September. On 30 August 2026, she departed Piraeus on another seven-night Aegean cruise, a departure that was recorded locally as part of the continuing coverage of the ship’s first regular Piraeus season.

Design and Technology
SILVER NOVA differs visibly from conventional cruise ships because of her asymmetrical design. Instead of centring all major public spaces along the vessel’s centreline, several areas have been moved toward the sides of the ship, opening larger views towards the sea. The design includes suites offering up to 270-degree views as well as expansive outdoor areas and one of the largest pool decks developed for a Silversea ship.
Her hybrid energy concept combines LNG-powered generation with battery storage, fuel-cell technology and shore power. The batteries can absorb peak electrical loads, while the fuel-cell installation was developed to provide power for hotel operations without conventional generator emissions when conditions allow.
PiraeuShips Record
SILVER NOVA was recorded at Piraeus by PiraeuShips during her first season of regular calls at the port in 2026. As one of the newest vessels in the Silversea fleet and the prototype of the innovative Nova Class, her repeated appearances at Piraeus during the summer of 2026 make her a notable addition to the PiraeuShips visual archive.
