NEW JERSEY TRADER, now sailing as MSC NEW JERSEY III, is a gearless cellular containership built in China in 2011. The vessel was originally delivered as CAPE MADRID and traded under that name until February 2016, when she became NEW JERSEY TRADER under Lomar Shipping. During this phase of her career she was a regular participant in international liner trades and was documented several times at Piraeus.
The ship was constructed by Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard and measures 212.6 metres in length and 32.2 metres in beam. Lomar’s technical specification gives a nominal capacity of 2,786 TEU, including 506 reefer plugs, with 2,260 TEU available at 14-tonne homogeneous loading. She is a completely gearless vessel, relying on shore cranes for container operations.
A major change took place in September 2024, when the vessel was sold to MSC interests, renamed MSC NEW JERSEY III and transferred to the Cyprus flag. Current AIS records list her as IMO 9571301, MMSI 210601000 and call sign 5BNY6, still active in container trades in 2026.

History
The vessel began her career in 2011 as CAPE MADRID, initially sailing under the Marshall Islands flag. In 2015 she was acquired by Lomar Shipping and, in February 2016, adopted the name NEW JERSEY TRADER. The vessel subsequently transferred to the Maltese register with Valletta as port of registry.
She remained NEW JERSEY TRADER for more than eight years. In September 2024, the ship changed ownership and identity again, becoming MSC NEW JERSEY III. Current AIS information confirms that she is still trading in 2026 under the Cyprus flag for MSC.
Piraeus Connection
NEW JERSEY TRADER has a well-documented connection with Piraeus. The vessel was photographed departing the port in January 2017, while another documented appearance places her at Piraeus in November 2018. This makes her one of the containerships recorded repeatedly in the Piraeus commercial traffic during her Lomar period.
PiraeuShips Record
NEW JERSEY TRADER was recorded at Piraeus by PiraeuShips during her period with Lomar Shipping. The recording now has additional historical value, as the vessel changed identity in 2024 and continues trading as MSC NEW JERSEY III. It is another example of how the PiraeuShips archive preserves a vessel at a specific stage of its commercial career before subsequent changes of name, flag and operator.
