Viking Jupiter - IMO 9796262

VIKING JUPITER is a Norwegian-flagged premium cruise ship delivered by Fincantieri at Ancona on 7 February 2019 and the sixth ocean vessel built for Viking.

The ship follows Viking's distinctive small-ship cruise concept: at almost 228.2 metres long and 47,842 GT, she carries only around 930 guests, providing considerably lower passenger density than mainstream cruise vessels of similar dimensions.

VIKING JUPITER has particular significance for PiraeuShips because Piraeus was one of the first ports in her entire commercial career. She made her maiden arrival there only days after delivery and began an inaugural Mediterranean voyage from Piraeus in February 2019.

Built at Ancona

VIKING JUPITER was constructed at:

Fincantieri's Ancona shipyard.

She was floated out in:

May 2018

and formally delivered on:

7 February 2019.

Sixth Viking Ocean Ship

VIKING JUPITER became Viking's:

sixth ocean cruise ship.

She followed:

VIKING STAR,

VIKING SEA,

VIKING SKY,

VIKING SUN,

and:

VIKING ORION.

All were developed around essentially the same successful small-ship concept.

Only 930 Guests

Viking currently continues to advertise VIKING JUPITER for:

930 guests.

At approximately 228 metres in length, this represents a significantly lower passenger density than large contemporary mass-market cruise ships.

Scandinavian Design

The ship combines modern Scandinavian-inspired interior design with:

all-veranda accommodation,

an infinity pool,

Nordic spa,

sauna,

snow grotto,

multiple restaurants,

and large observation areas.

Maiden Arrival at Piraeus

VIKING JUPITER made her:

maiden arrival at Piraeus on 14 February 2019,

only one week after delivery.

The Piraeus Port Authority formally welcomed the new vessel and presented a commemorative plaque to representatives onboard.

Maiden Cruise from Piraeus

The connection became even more significant immediately afterwards.

On:

16 February 2019

VIKING JUPITER began one of her inaugural Mediterranean itineraries from:

Piraeus.

The cruise proceeded toward destinations including:

Heraklion,

Katakolon,

Messina,

Naples,

and Civitavecchia.

PiraeuShips in 2019

PiraeuShips published the dedicated:

VIKING JUPITER – IMO 9796262

entry in:

February 2019.

The original page contained the PiraeuShips video footage but virtually no detailed vessel description.

The new text therefore substantially strengthens what is potentially one of the more interesting cruise entries in the archive: a vessel filmed essentially at the beginning of its career.

Still Active

VIKING JUPITER remains fully active with Viking.

The company's current official profile continues to list:

930 guests

2019 build year

and the ship's 745-foot / approximately 227–228-metre dimensions.

PiraeuShips Record

VIKING JUPITER was recorded by PiraeuShips during one of the earliest weeks of the vessel's commercial life. Delivered by Fincantieri at Ancona on 7 February 2019, the sixth Viking ocean ship reached Piraeus for her maiden call only one week later and began an inaugural Mediterranean voyage from the Greek port on 16 February. The 47,842-GT vessel follows Viking's distinctive small-ship concept, accommodating only around 930 guests despite measuring more than 228 metres in length. Still fully active with Viking, VIKING JUPITER gives the PiraeuShips archive particular historical value because the footage documents a modern cruise ship essentially from the moment her operating career began.
