MSC Marta - IMO 9295385

MSC MARTA is a Panama-flagged Post-Panamax containership built in South Korea in 2005 for Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC). Unlike many containerships of her generation, she has retained the same name, flag and MSC association throughout her entire career, and remains active more than twenty years after construction.

Built by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries at Mokpo, the ship belongs to the Hyundai 5,500-TEU generation of container vessels. She measures 274.67 metres in length and 40 metres in beam, with a gross tonnage of 65,483 GT and deadweight of approximately 72,044 tonnes.

Construction and Design

Construction of MSC MARTA began in 2005 at Hyundai Samho. Her keel was laid on 9 May 2005 and she was launched on 28 July 2005. Sources differ slightly on the exact formal delivery date later that year, so for PiraeuShips I would simply use “Built: 2005” rather than attaching an uncertain day to the entry.

Her MAN-B&W 10K98MC-C low-speed main engine develops around 57 MW, which originally gave the vessel a service speed in the region of 25–26 knots. This was typical of large mainline containerships constructed before slow steaming became standard across the liner industry.

There is some variation in published container capacity. The Port of Hamburg gives 5,599 TEU, other detailed records quote around 5,879 TEU, and more recent commercial sources use figures around 5,600 TEU. For an archive page, “approx. 5,600 TEU” is the safest figure unless you want to distinguish nominal design capacity from operational capacity.

More Than Twenty Years as MSC MARTA

One interesting feature of the ship is the lack of the usual sequence of names and owners found in many older containerships. IMO 9295385 entered service in 2005 as MSC MARTA and continues to sail as MSC MARTA in 2026, still under the Panama flag with MMSI 371474000 and call sign 3ECV4.

Recent records confirm that she remains employed in MSC's international liner network. In September 2026 she was trading in Northern European services, with recent calls involving Rotterdam, Antwerp and other major container ports.

Piraeus Connection

MSC MARTA is already part of the PiraeuShips archive, where she was recorded under her present identity in January 2020. Your original entry correctly records IMO 9295385, Panama flag, MMSI 371474000, 65,483 GT and her Hyundai Samho construction.

The Piraeus connection also continues today. The Piraeus Container Terminal's current long-term schedule, as published on 16 September 2026, lists MSC MARTA for another Piraeus call on 25 September 2026, with departure scheduled for the following day. As this is a forward schedule, the actual arrival time can of course still change.

PiraeuShips Record

MSC MARTA was recorded at Piraeus by PiraeuShips during her long career with Mediterranean Shipping Company. Built in South Korea in 2005, the 65,483-GT Post-Panamax containership has remarkably retained the same MSC MARTA name, Panama flag and MSC association for more than two decades. Still active in 2026 and continuing to call at Piraeus, she represents an increasingly veteran generation of large mainline containerships from the mid-2000s.
